This is Elvis
Before I saw this show I was not a big Elvis fan, I listen to his music but it isn't in my top 20. After watching this show however that has changed. This is one of those shows where you will love sections and not like sections depending on your taste.
Personally I liked the first half because it had more of a story to it and showed a personal side to Elvis. The second half I liked the music much more but this half did not really tell a story as it was a recreation of the 68 comeback concert.
If you are an Elvis fan then this is definitely a show for you. Steve Michaels' portrayal of Elvis is excellent. To my ear he sounded very realistic although I did her a few audience members saying they had heard better, particularly in the slower numbers.
I loved the fact that the show featured live musicians throughout, this really added to the performance, and they were played by the actors which drew the audience into the story even more. The set was reminiscent of the time and really added to the story and at times it was just like sitting and watching Elvis in concert.
If you like Elvis then this is definitely a show for you. If, like me, you aren't too fussed about Elvis but just enjoy having a good night out at the theatre then this is also the show for you.
The show isn't in my top 10 but I would go and see it again. The biggest downfall of the show was the lack of audience, although the small audience there was worked hard to produce a great atmosphere. There was signing and dancing in the aisles, just like you would expect from Elvis.
So dig out your finest Blue Suede Shoes and party on down to watch This Is Elvis, you're guaranteed to have a good time.
