Shrek the musical
After countless smash hit films everyones favourite Ogre is back with his own family friendly musical!
Having played for a number of years in the West End this latest tour kicked off in Edinburgh in December 2017 and is making audiences laugh up and down the country.
The big green man himself is played by Steffan Harri. It is like watching a hugely talented comedian bound around the stage singing as he goes. He is the real life and sole of the show and wins the audience over the moment he steps foot on to the stage.
He is joined on stage by Amelia Lily as Princess Fiona and Marcus Ayton as Donkey. Both of these have again been perfectly cast to bring a great blend of comedy and singing talent to the show.
As the story develops you really feel the chemistry between Shrek and Fiona develop before your eyes.
The costumes throughout the show are stunning. Lord Farquard is hilarious with the costume making him shorter than all the other characters. The fairytale creatures are all brilliant with Pinnochio's growing nose a funny highlight as well as the crossdressing wolf. A mention must also go to Princess Fiona's transformation from human into Ogre at the end of the show right before the audience' eyes. She even levitates at the church altar before the brilliant dragon puppet bursts through the window to save the day.
Shrek is a story that most of the audience are familiar with so bringing it to life on stage would always be a challenge. It has been done better than you could ever imagine. The audience are transported to a magical world where fairytale creatures are banished from the kingdom and are hooked on Shrek's adventure to get them back into the kingdom.
Laughter and singing are the order of the day in this show that will not disappoint.
It really is suitable for the whole family and a fantastic show to introduce little ones to the magic that is theatre. Go and see this show before it is too late, you won't be disappointed.
