Beautiful - The Carole King Musical
Carole King has written some of the most recognisable songs of the last 50 years, some you will know are hers and others you wont, but what is certain is you will know the songs.
Beautiful is another Juke Box musical, a show that features existing music put to a new story line, but it isn't an ordinary Juke Box musical. The show lives up to its name, and surpasses it. It isn't just Beautiful, it's wonderful, a masterpiece, simply perfect. The sold out audience were all on their feet and partying at the end and giving the cast a thoroughly deserved standing ovation.
Bronte Barbe stars in the lead role as Carole King, her singing is perfect for the role, being able to pick out the small nuances in Carole's manner. She is supported by Kane Oliver Parry, Amy Ellen Richardson and Matthew Gonslaves as the leading 4 characters. All are superb in their parts and really help to immerse the audience in the story and the emotions it portrays.
The show itself tells the story of Carole King's life and the ups and downs that brought her, quite accidentally, to the world stage. It is a fascinating journey in itself which, when coupled with her extensive back catalogue of songs, creates the perfect evening of entertainment for the whole family.
The show is rounded off with fantastic playing from the live band which bring the songs to life and an impressive set which cleverly morphs between different offices, houses and recording studios.
I liked how the show started and ended at the same point in time, like those tv shows that come up with a 3 weeks previous caption just as they start, it made the show feel concluded and gave it a sense of purpose.
If you're looking for a great evening of entertainment then look no further, Carole King is a song writing genius. You must go and see this show!
